São Paulo – Jardim Paulista: D.O.M. – Alex Atala

D.O.M., short for Dominus Optimo Maximo, located at Rua Barão de Capanema 549, was opened by chef Alex Atal in 2009. Atala is known for transforming traditional Brazilian dishes by adopting classical bases and techniques on native Brazilian ingredients. D.O.M. has been perennially been named the best restaurant in South America for by Restaurant magazine, and since 2006 included in the S.Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, reaching 4th place on the 2012 list.

These old people still lived in a traditional house – far more picturesque than those who had been relocated into modern flats. I’m not sure I could have coped with the pigs practically in the kitchen though!
